21 Jun Visit Paris easily with the RER A
Paris is a magnificent city, rich in history and culture. Did you know that there’s an easy way to visit Paris, even for a weekend or short stay?
One of the most convenient ways to explore the city is to take the RER A line! This RER line connects several of Paris’s top tourist attractions. Highly reliable and fast, the RER A connects the Île-de-France region from East to West, and welcomes over 2 million passengers every day! Spoiler alert: this line is right next to our 3-star aparthotel!
Discover the most beautiful places in Paris, accessible by RER A
Disneyland Paris
Let’s start our adventure from the east with a first stop: Marne-La-Vallée – Disneyland Paris. The famous Disney parks, which recently celebrated their 30th anniversary, can be reached directly by RER A at the Marne-La-Vallée – Disneyland station. Taking the RER is a very convenient way to get there, even with children. If you’re staying at our family-run aparthotel, the RER is located right outside our establishment, taking you there in just 10 minutes! No need to take your car… and that’s something our guests particularly appreciate!
The Château de Champs-sur-Marne and Vincennes
Fancy a cultural visit? For this second stopover, continue on to the Château de Champs-sur-Marne. Get off at Noisiel and take the RATP bus 220 (direction Bry-sur-Marne) to the Mairie de Champs-sur-Marne stop. Immerse yourself in history by visiting this sumptuously furnished château and its magnificent formal gardens.
Then, as we approach the gates of Paris, we’ll stop at RER A station Château de Vincennes for our 3rd stop. Discover the dungeon of the Château de Vincennes. From the top of its 52-metre tower, you’ll be able to enjoy stunning views over the Bois de Vincennes and Paris.
Châtelet les Halles and Marais districts
Get closer to the heart of Paris and stop off at Les Halles for a 4th stop full of charm and history. Châtelet Les Halles is the heart of Paris, the oldest district dating back to the 12th century, when Louis IV decided to build a market on marshland. Today, you can stroll through its streets, visit the church of Sainte-Eustache or take a break around the Innocents fountain. It’s a lively district, teeming with stores and cafés-restaurants. If you take the Forum – Porte Lescot exit, you can also easily reach the Marais district on foot.
Shopping in Auber
For your 5th stop, make a stop at Auber station: the district of the Opéra and department stores. If you want to see a ballet or simply visit the Opéra Garnier… a must! Fancy a spot of shopping? Auber is also within easy reach of Galeries Lafayette and Printemps Haussmann, two of Paris’s top fashion spots. Want to combine shopping and dining? The Printemps Haussman now offers several cafés-restaurants, including a Maison Ladurée corner, a Cojean, Maison Noura… For 360° views of Paris, try the 7ème ciel on the 7th floor of Printemps, or La Perruche on the 9th floor of Printemps de l’Homme. You’ll discover refined cuisine and a breathtaking view over the rooftops of Paris. More info here.
The Louvre Museum
Step 6 takes you to the Musée du Louvre, former palace of kings and one of the world’s greatest art museums. To get there, you’ll need to take metro line 1, which runs parallel to RER line A (easy change at Charles de Gaulle Etoile or Châtelet). The Palais Royal – Musée du Louvre station is the closest point of access to the museum. Visitors can see thousands of works of art, including Leonardo da Vinci’s famous Mona Lisa.
The Arc de Triomphe
Stage 7. Another must-see stop on the RER A is the Arc de Triomphe, located on the famous Champs-Élysées avenue. This historic monument offers a breathtaking view of the city from its observation platform. Simply take the Charles de Gaulle Étoile exit from the metro station or the Charles de Gaulle-Étoile RER A to get there.
La Défense
Finally, in 8th place, La Défense is another not-to-be-missed area accessible by RER A. The esplanade de la Défense is an emblematic business district, home to a large number of companies in tall buildings on the banks of the Seine. You’ll also find a concert hall/multi-sports stadium: Paris la Défense Aréna. La Défense is also very popular for its huge shopping center, with over 225 boutiques and no fewer than 55 restaurants: the Westfield Les 4 temps La Défense shopping center.
Green escape around Paris
Finally, let’s end our tour with our 9th stop, the Château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye, in the 78 department of Paris. Saint-Germain-en-Laye is a beautiful, historic commune in the Yvelines department, 19km west of Paris.
Here you can visit the Château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye, former residence of the kings of France and birthplace of Louis XIV. What’s more, you can take a free stroll in the beautiful adjoining park, which offers beautiful views of La Défense and the loop of the Seine. If you’re a cyclist or hiker, if the weather’s right, take a stroll through the national forest of Saint-Germain-en-Laye (25 minutes by RER from central Paris to Saint-Germain-en-Laye).
In conclusion, the RER A line offers easy, convenient access to some of Paris’s most popular tourist attractions. Whether you’re an art or nature lover, a history buff or simply a tourist looking to discover the city, there’s bound to be a stop on this RER line to suit you!
